Board establishes new B.C. Taxi Roundtable

Board establishes new B.C. Taxi Roundtable

October 14, 2026

To support engagement and dialogue with the taxi industry, the Passenger Transportation Board is establishing a new B.C. Taxi Roundtable. The roundtable will meet twice per year and include representatives from the Board, taxi associations, and the five B.C. passenger transportation regions.

The roundtable will be a forum for discussion about the B.C. taxi sector and its relationship with the Board. It is intended to identify emerging issues, share information, and provide opportunity to discuss challenges, solutions, and innovative approaches to support a healthy and vibrant taxi sector in accordance with the Board's role and mandate.

Why the B.C. Taxi Roundtable is being established

Taxis represent a long-standing and key sector of the B.C. passenger transportation industry. The Board is committed to supporting a healthy and sustainable sector where innovation and competition thrive and essential service is provided to the public.

The Board appreciates that the taxi sector faces challenges in an evolving passenger transportation landscape. The roundtable will help the Board to stay current with the concerns of licensees as it seeks to make decisions that meet these challenges, while also providing licensees and associations with regular opportunities to voice their concerns and share information.

The roundtable will not replace or directly affect Board decision-making processes.

Roundtable membership

The membership of the roundtable will include one licensee from each of the five B.C. passenger transportation regions, one licensed WAV operator, one representative from each taxi association, and Board staff.

Roundtable meetings will occur twice each year, in October and April, unless otherwise communicated. Meetings are organized by the Board and are online.

Your invitation to join the B.C. Taxi Roundtable

The Board is currently seeking roundtable members to represent passenger transportation regions 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. If you are a licensee in one of these regions and you are interested in participating in the roundtable, the Board invites you to submit a short email to Jim Grove, Communications Officer, at jim.grove@gov.bc.ca.

In your email, please provide your name, business name, city or town, and a brief description of your experience in the taxi sector (e.g., years operating your business, or driving taxi, etc.).

Please note that the Board is also seeking one licensed WAV operator member for the roundtable. If you are a WAV operator and interested in joining the roundtable, or if you know a WAV operator whom you would recommend to the roundtable, the Board welcomes your email nomination.

Participation only requires volunteering approximately 90 minutes of personal time twice each year.
